DAD
by Hana Geissendorfer
Synopsis:
After her mum dies, Jenny has no other option but to move from her cozy cottage in Yorkshire to live with her dad in London. Allthough Jenny barely knows her cab driver dad, Pete, she knows she doesn’t like him. Why should she? Pete has made no effort to see her since her parents divorced and her mum never had a good word to say about him. Then again, Jenny has never heard Pete’s side of the story.
Pete wishes the circumstances were different, but is very happy to finally be able to get to know his daughter and welcomes Jenny into his life in London. Nevertheless the combination of Pete knowing little about eleven year old girls and Jenny fundamentally disliking Pete means that the two of them living together is anything but a happy family.
Things at Jenny’s new school aren’t much better either and quickly Jenny is convinced that she is destined to a horrible and lonely life in London, with a dad she hates and no new friends. And so, in a desperate attempt to solve her problems, Jenny tells a little fib: When one of the boys in her class remarks that she has the same surname as a very famous actor, Jenny not only claims to be related to said actor, she claims that he is, in fact, her dad….
Production Note:
‘Dad’ will be a 90-minute feature film, following Jenny’s attempts in trying to escape her own reality by pretending her dad is someone else. Her ridiculous lie takes her on a number of amusing adventures, leading her finally to form an unbreakable bond with her real dad, whilst coming to terms with her mother’s death.
